The last 12 months he is on a retainer as project, programme and portfolio management consultant with a Fortune 500 FMCG company, working for Asia Pacific Headquarters in Hong Kong. Responsibilities cover overseeing the handling of regional business projects, ensuring the professional delivery of the strategy through projects, programmes and a balanced portfolio, whilst adhering to corporate (project management) standards. Those standards include PRINCE2 for projects and MSP for programmes. On top of that, internally developed processes for portfolio and programme management are kept practical and in practice.

Building up project management capability on all levels (regional, area and local) is in this case a key to successfully delivering the strategy. Instrumental in this, is building a regional PMO community, whose members are located in different geographical areas and numerous end- markets and factories. Marcel is experienced in dealing with stakeholders on all levels, having regular interaction with regional top management team, regional management teams, other PMO’s in the region as well as regional project managers and their project boards.

With over 7 year experience in Asia, over 6 years in Europe and US, Marcel has developed a sound cultural understanding and appropriate skill set to operate successfully in different cultures. For the past 10+ years, he has worked with multi cultural, multi disciplined and geographical dispersed project teams.

He brings to the table a rare combination of project/programme and portfolio management knowledge, facilitation-, people skills and business acumen to facilitate business change.

He has a diverse training background that varies from scuba- diving training up to software application training and project management related training. Mr. Ekkel holds a Bsc. in Business Information Science from the Hogeschool van Utrecht, attained his PMP® qualification in 2004, and a Six Sigma greenbelt in 2005 and became PRINCE2 practitioner in 2008.
